The design process
The Yardstick design process is a consultative program. We endeavour to bring you the best possible solution for your space, and will do all in our power to illustrate our ideas along the way. This is done through scale plans, hand drawn sketches, and computer models.
By the time you receive your plan you will be 100% comfortable that the garden you are about to build will fulfill all of your dreams and desires.
The timeframe will vary depending on the sizeplan and complexity of the project in question. Most designs will take four to six weeks.
The design process is in four stages:
The initial meeting and measure-up
This is where we meet with you and discuss at length what you want from your garden. We walk through the space with you and begin to formulate creative concepts.
We will then measure the site to translate to a scale drawing back at the studio.
The first concept stage
After drafting a scale plan we begin the analytical and creative process.
We study the site’s attributes, problems, and uses at depth with relation to our initial discussion. We then devise a creative solution which will bring the best from your property.
We then meet with you to discuss these ideas.
At this point we are only talking about structure: spatial layout, how the garden will work, and those elements that are vital for its function.
The second concept stage
At this stage we discuss materials, colours, plants, and features. Wherever possible we will show you samples and/or photographs as well as further sketches or models to make absolutely sure all elements are clear to you.
Any changes ensuing from our first meeting will be discussed, and design questions finalised.
The final plan
The final plan is to scale, laminated, and in colour. We deliver it to you personally, and describe exactly how to read it.
The final plan and accompanying information contains all the detail required for quoting and construction.
We also include a complimentarily black and white copy to distribute to prospective landscapers. Any further copies will be provided to you at the cost of printing.
The fifth stage!!
Although the design process is enjoyable, we really just want to create gardens!!
We will assist in any way possible to facilitate the construction of your garden.
Please see our list of services for details of assistance with garden construction.
